I recently got an interesting email. The gist of it was that technology has enabled such an increase in bowhunting success rates that longer seasons for bowhunters may not be justified anymore.
The email went on to suggest that it therefore might be in our own best interests for bowhunters to petition wildlife officials for further bowhunting equipment restrictions.
I'm not sure that I accept the premise, even though I wouldn't be surprised if serious reductions in our season length were proposed in the near future...maybe even this year. But the email got me thinking.
What would happen if no electronics of any kind were allowed while in the act of hunting? No trail cams. No laser rangefinders. No illuminated sight pins. No luminocks. Would a "no-batteries included" rule decrease success rates, or just increase wounding rates? For all I know, maybe it would just prevent some folks from bowhunting. What do you think?
Not sure it would change anything. People are still going to do what there going to do. I think it boils down to ethics in most cases. I sure hate to see the season shortened. I enjoy the time in the woods and I dont want to lose that!
Well like I said before all that techno doesn't put my game any closer to me, I still have to call my elk in and that's not allways the easiest thing to do. And untill your arrow can shoot out of your bow at the same speed as a bullet out of a rifle then you can talk about shortening the bow season. Does that techno come with mind altering devices that control elk or deer to bring them? If so sign me up.
