I'm pretty happy with the Old Reliable Mathews LX. Last year I shot the Gold Tip
Pro Hunters and the Grim Reapers.

This year I had the boys down at UAC set me up with the Easton Nano 340's and
will shoot the Wack'em 100 grain 4 blade broadheads.

I shot this set up last week at the Cache Archers 3-d Shoot at Hardware Ranch
and was extremely pleased.

Those thin little Nano's with the tiny fletching flew pretty dang good and after testing with the broadheads it looks like I may have found a winner.

Got to admit, Gordito...your arrows were flying sweet when I saw you shoot.

I have 2 bows. After a lot of (expensive) experimenting, one is my "elk bow":

Browning Illusion at 78 lbs (built for uumph)
Gold Tip Pro-Hunter 75-95 arrows w/25 grain inserts
4" durance
125 grain Wac'em broadheads
Whisker Biscuit rest

The other is my "deer bow" (built for speed)
Hoyt Vectrix XL at 70 lbs
Maxima Hunter 350 arrows
2" Blazer vanes
100 grain Muzzy 4 blade broadheads
Schaffer drop-away rest

Meantime, I've got the itch...real bad (damn Cache Archers) to go back to recurve. I miss it. Bear Super Kodiak #60 has my eye right now. But I gave away all my trad stuff, so it could get expensive....again.

I have several longbows, but for most of my big game hunting I use my Dwyer Longbow. It is 64lbs at my draw of 29". I shoot sitka spruce or cedar arrows tipped with Magnus I 135 grain heads. I am now experimenting with 3 blade snuffers or Wensel Woodsmans. I will see if I can figure out how to get them as sharp as I like before this deer season here in WI.

Finn, there is a lot of really good used traditional equipment out there. Just start looking around on trad internet sites and you can usually find a classifieds section.

Hoyt Ultra Mag set at 68# with Easton Axis Full Metal Jacket arrows and 100 grain G5 Montec broadheads. Each shot goes for about $22 and people think bullets are expensive. I love the bow but have been eye balling the new Hoyt Alpha Max 32. I will have to wait a couple years to go with a new rig.

I just set up my eleven year old daughter with a new Mathews Menace set at 25# with a 22 inch draw, a whisker biscuit rest, and tru-glo sights. This is a sweet bow for beginners and one that goes all the way up to 52# and 30 inch draw. Way better set up than I ever had starting out. Hopefully by next year she is up to the minimum draw weight so she can head for Wyoming on an antelope hunt.

I shoot a Mathews Drenalin, FMJ 400, strikers 125, and the Easton tracers for my nocks and white wraps that say " EAT MORE MEAT " and if anybody has seen me lately you could say I have eaten to much meat. HA Ha. but I have been pretty happy with this set up.

Hey Matleg801, How do you like the Tracers? I've been using luminocks for the last couple years but I've had problems with them lighting up with the Trophy Ridge Hailfire arrows I switched to last year. I like that they come with a few matched practice nocks and have been looking to make a switch.

As for my setup I'll probably stay with my AR34 again this year. It's showing it's age but has been a great bow. It's setup at 69#, and shooting Trophy Ridge Hailfires tipped with 100g Rocket Sidewinders and Blazer vanes. Was hoping to switch to something new this year, but might be a bit late in the game for changes now. I was hoping to upgrade the site and maybe try a new rest (shooting a Dropzone currently) but it's shooting so well right now I don't know why I'd mess with it

I did add a No-Peep this year and that has made a huge difference in my groups and shooting consistency. I kept my meta peep in place as well - using the two together is producing some great results (especially when shooting from off positions and from Ground Blinds)

The tracers are awsome, I don't know if you now much about them but what tunrs them on is a magnet. You place the magnet on your riser so when you shoot, your arrow passes the magnet and activate's them. They light up in flight and when they hit your target they start blinking for 10 seconds then they stay on and will stay lit for 90 hours. The cool thing about them is you can activate them or deactivate them. This is done with the magnet. I really recomend these nocks. My arrow flys great too. Talk to Wilde Arrow, their the one's that got me hooked.

62" Wapiti recurve, 54# @ 28". I've shot this bow for the last eight years and like my wife and kids, it's the love of my life and I fondly referr to it as "My Precious".

Many of you that know me, know just how protective I am of My Precious, and if by chance I've let you touch it or even hold it, consider yourself lucky.

I did get that invisible feeling when I put my hand around the grip!

I must be a lucky guy!

My PSE X-force delivers about 95# of kinetic energy. I shoot 465 grain carbon tech 240 with an outsert and blazer vanes. Unfortunately they dont make those arrows any more so I bought up the last 8 dozen I found. I took everything off my string and went to a no-peep that was the best thing I've done for my accuracy. I also re-tuned with a string stopper it seemed to quiet the bow and tighten my groups a little. I shoved a 2" rocket through both front shoulders of a muley and it dropped right in front of me last year.

Whatever you shoot start with an arrow splined right for your bow then mess around with the weight to achieve maximum kinetics. I see to many people get hung up on speed and go hunting with too light of an arrow making their chances for good penetration low.

Does tracer make a lighted nock for G nocks?
