Bowhunter Ed Reset 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 2
Gordy, Frank and I had a pow-wow with the DWR last night where they unveiled the new bowhunter ed program. In general, we're pleased with what the DWR has come up with.

The new bow ed program has no effect on the existing hunter education program.

The new bow ed program has no effect on the online ethics course for hunting the extended areas.

All existing bow ed instructor certifications are voided. Existing instructors will need to re-certify. (This is intended to eliminate "dead weight"...those who have certified in the past but who have not been offering courses.

This is the NBEF endorsed bow ed course. Even though I'd been a bowhunter for many years, I found the course to be enjoyable and informative and I can truly say I'm a better bowhunter for having taken the course.

The reason for this post is that I'm hoping to see a lot of BOU members get involved in this effort by becoming active bowhunter ed instructors. After years of frustration, the DWR has finally stepped up and done their part. Now it's time for us to do ours.

To become a NBEF bowhunter ed instructor, you begin by filing an application. Go here

A batch email will be coming soon with more details.

Yes The last couple of days My brother and I have been taking our niece and my brothers son to hunters safety class, my brother and I have enroled in it to to take a refressure course. It has been an awsome class. Our instructor has found out that we bow hunt and has asked if we would want to be bow hunter instructors. We have thought about it very seriously and think we will do it. The next course will be April 4th and 5th at the Lee Kay Center in Salt Lake. If anybody would be intrested.

Fantastic! We really need some instructors in your neck of the woods and you and Pudge will be outstanding instructors. And don't sweat the course - it's actually kinda fun.

Thanks Finn. I also got the ball rolling on NASP at Emery High School. I have the principal on board with me, so its a go as soon as i get the funding from local businesses. Hope to have that in a week or so. Are you coming down for our 3-D shoot?

The outdoor shoot? You bet - wouldn't miss it. Looking forward to seeing you folks!

And I'm glad to hear about NASP. Since I'm working at a Jr. High, I've got a high school team as well as a middle school team. (9th graders have to shoot high school division.) It would definitely be cool to see my kids and your kids shoot it out at next year's state tournament.

Awesome! Finn, I'd like to get rolling on being an instructor and would also like to press Damon and Brad to assist in getting the NASP program going in our neck of the woods. What do ya say, boys?

The tournament was the highlight of my winter. Seeing those kids do their thing and experiencing what the NASP program is all about was simply amazing. I'm hooked?
