First time hunting in the North this year. Coming to the Wasatch Unit/Strawberry Reservoir area for deer and elk and I'm looking for a good spot to camp and hunt that's not too trafficky.

I have an obsession and a taste for elk. Can anyone suggest somewhere to camp and somewhere to hunt? I don't have an ATV so I do walk a few miles every day. Will come in to that area Aug 20.

Hunted Utah for many years and I've never taken an elk. I feel a need to connect.

Appreciate any info anyone can give me. Thanks.

I scouted and hunted the area in 2007. There are lots of roads and camping access, but there will be people. Most weekends I tried camping there I had to look quite hard for a spot. Lots of long term campers, probably over the 16 day limit. But you can find spots, come in the middle of the week to establish your camp if you can. There will be a lot of bowhunters around. It is a huge area, and there are overlooked spots and places that are out of reach to most, but there are plenty of elk.

Just be prepared to run into other hunters, and plenty of other outdoor recreationists a.k.a. dirt bikes, four wheelers, etc.

It is really pretty country and not too rugged in some places. Just find overlooked pockets and out of reach places.

Yeah, What Nathan said. Pick a drainage and do a bit of scouting. I'm a fan of setting up a base camp mid week, then hitting different spots throughout the hunt. If you camp in the general vicinity of Indian Creek, you can easily access Diamond Fork/Sheep Creek, Willow Creek, and the drainages off of Strawberry Ridge (front and back) and they'll all hold elk.

Thanks guys. This will help me a lot. Anyone else have any other info or names of creeks or roads I should check?

Thanks Nathan and Tye.
