On June 5th & 6th, we had a successful convention at the Utah State Fairgrounds Park as part of the Utah Outdoor Adventures Expo. Our event was a highlight of the expo and we were visited by a lot of non-hunting folks as well as bowhunters.
The convention had three main events – the raffle, the kids’ shoot and the Humphries Archery Pop-up 3D competition. We had a lot of prizes in our raffle, from bows and accessories to taxidermy to camping equipment to front-end alignments. We appreciate the support we enjoyed from so many businesses and want to thank them all for their donations.
The kids’ shoot was a great way to introduce youngsters to archery and recruit future bowhunters. The flow of new shooters was fairly constant throughout the event and we succeeded in putting a lot of big smiles on little faces. Several kids were quick to let their parents know they wanted a bow for their next birthday or Christmas present and if there were any complaints at all, they were from parents who couldn’t pull their kids away from the shooting line. They were shooting Fuse Freestyle bows that were set to 10 and 5 lbs of draw weight, so even the tiny tots could shoot with a little assistance. We also had a couple Genesis bows for older kids and adults. Again, we owe a big thanks to the good people who made this part of the event possible through their generous donations.
Even though the 3D pop-up range had quite a few fun shooters, the competition was relatively light. But there was still enough competition to make it exciting. After it was all over, the winners were Shaun Larsen (1st Place, $500), Chance Platt (2nd Place, $300), Heidi Mitchell (3rd Place, $200) and Tim Kern (4th Place, $100). More details as well as news of future competitions can be found at http://humphriesarchery.blogspot.com/
So, we made a little money, signed up a bunch of new members, touched base face to face with the membership, established some great public relations with the non-hunting public and had a lot of fun. So the only way we could improve would be to do even more of the same. We’re interested to hear suggestions from all of our members so that next year’s convention will be even better!
